inspiring educational institutions to embrace cycling as a competitive sport
YES is excited to see firefighters taking advantage of the YES School Cycling Instructor (SCI) Training. These specific skills are essential when instructing children about cycling safety.
Our newest spokesperson, Tressa Miller, is a lieutenant with the Lane Fire Authority in Veneta, Oregon. She is also an avid cyclist. When I asked her to enlighten us about firefighters training children in the art of cycling, she responded with “Heck – YES!
I became interested in public safety as a child, when firefighters helped me after a bad crash. Tressa is still young at heart and body, recently qualifying for the BMX World Cup coming up next month. We wish her the best of luck and success!
Update: Tressa made it to the eighth finals, but is very pleased with her performance. She is already planning for next year’s BMX World Cup.
Do you have a youth cycling story? We would love to publish it on the YES Website.
